Owning a business can feel like you're carrying the whole load by yourself. Most of us never had formal training in leadership — we learned it while doing the work, making mistakes, and figuring things out as we go. And when things get tough, it's easy to fall into the comparison trap and believe that everyone else must be doing it better.
That realization allowed me to start something new. I began talking with other business owners about the moments that shaped them: the challenges, the turning points, and the growth that followed. What I found was simple, yet powerful: we all stumble, we all doubt ourselves, and we all learn along the way.
In this episode, I share why these conversations matter, what I’ve discovered so far, and how hearing someone else’s story can shift the perspective on your own journey. If you've ever felt isolated in leadership, this is for you.

Business ownership can be a lonely journey a lot of times and one that most of us didn't necessarily get trained in or didn't go to school for or didn't necessarily have great mentors who taught us or showed us the ropes about business ownership and leadership and or we just are in our business as leaders and owners without anybody else to talk to or bounce ideas off of. And one of the things that I think also happens is that we end up being very critical of ourselves. I think that we're ⁓ a lot of times our worst critics and that we feel like everybody else is probably doing it better than we're doing it.
And it's out of that realization that I've, you know, I've worked with hundreds of business owners over the many years and I'm a business owner and I know this pattern and I've seen this pattern so much. And one of the things that I decided to do was to start interviewing business owners about what is the learning that you've had along the way that has shaped you, that has changed you, that really helped you in terms of your journey as a leader, as a business owner. And the reason I'm asking people to share that journey is because I think that it's helpful when we know that we're not on this journey alone. I think it's really helpful when we know that other people have struggled, that they have challenges, that they have walked the path that we are walking. And that I think it's helpful when we share our our stories with one another. I think it's really powerful as a way of sharing ourselves, our shared humanity with each other and our learning and our growth and our struggles because it helps let us know that A, we're not alone, B, nobody's perfect, nobody has it all figured out. And that we're all on this journey of learning and growing together. I would love to hear from you.
